Pokemon Go UPDATE: Niantic goes behind the scenes with new fan vote

Pokemon Go developer Niantic has given fans a behind-the-scenes look at how the game is made.

The latest Niantic blog post details the making of the loading screens to launch the game.

There's even a fan vote to pick the next Pokemon to feature on the loading screen.

It all starts with picking the right Pokemon for the current event.

"When designing a loading screen, the team starts by discussing what the most appropriate Pokémon to feature is based on surrounding events and the latest product release," the post reads.

"In the case of the Steelix loading screen, we knew we wanted to celebrate the recent introduction of Pokémon originally from the Johto region to Pokémon GO.

"We wanted to create a throwback to the original Gyarados loading screen by using an epic Johto region Pokémon with a similar shape and size, and Steelix was the best fit."

Next up the team draws up some concepts and sketch out a rough idea for the screen.

The team then looks at lighting, camera positioning and colour, and tests each of them in different lighting positions.

"Once we figured out the optimum lighting, composition, and mood of the illustration, we tested it one more time on the phone and worked with the brand and design experts to add any final touches to the screen," the post continues.

"And voilà—our Steelix loading screen was ready to go! We then worked with our Engineering team to implement it in the live product for you to see the next time you logged in."

The news comes as Niantic launches a brand new Fire and Ice event in Pokemon Go.

The cornerstone of the event is an increase in Fire and Ice Pokemon out in the wild.

"Trainers around the world will discover more Charmander, Cyndaquil, Growlithe, Houndour, Ponyta, Swinub, Vulpix, and their Evolutions," reads a Niantic blog post.

"You’ll also want to keep an eye out for Sneasel, Magmar, Cloyster, and other Fire types and Ice types!"

Players will also receive XP bonuses for throwing Poke Balls accurately, while discounted Lucky eggs will be available from the in-game shop.

Ans speaking of eggs, fans can also earn more XP for hatching their eggs.
